Dr Andrew Miller Appointed to AMA Limited Board

Dr Andrew J Miller was recently appointed to the AMA Limited Board as WA’s representative. The Board consists of one appointee from each state or territory AMA.

Dr Miller (not to be confused with AMA Limited Board Chair Dr Andrew Miller) is well known as the AMA (WA) President during the COVID-19 pandemic and the introduction of VAD legislation in our State.

He is exceptionally well-credentialled for the role, with more than 20 years of leadership and governance of not-for-profit groups. As previous Chair of the AMA (WA) and the Australian Society of Anaesthetists (ASA), he has been involved intimately in strategic planning at an enterprise level as Chairman, across both membership and commercial units.

Dr Miller has the qualifications to support his experience. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and understands the critical importance of explicitly managed governance to the success of organisations like the AMA.

He studied law at the University of Western Australia and Macquarie Universities, and graduated with an LLB with Honors.

In addition to the AMA (WA) and ASA, Dr Miller has experience as both Board member and Chair of MDA National Mutual, OzSAGE (public health charity) and Lakesbay Pty Ltd (software). He has also served on the Boards of MDA National Insurance and Rafiki Surgical Missions (charitable outreach).

AMA (WA) President Dr Michael Page said Dr Miller was an outstanding candidate to represent WA on the board.

“As a Fellow of the Federal AMA, and having served on the Ethics and Medicolegal Committee as its Chair, on the Equity Inclusion and Diversity Committee and been involved in the implementation of policy for many years, he understands and is in accord with the vision and values of the AMA and how they benefit members, non-member doctors, our patients and the wider community,” Dr Page said.

“He will represent our State fairly and robustly, with a wealth of experience and knowledge to guide him. We congratulate him on this significant appointment, and thank him for his ongoing service.”
