Postgraduate Medical Council of WA (PMCWA) together with the AMA (WA) recently held the 2025 Medical Careers Expo.
Returning to The University Club of Western Australia on Tuesday 25 March, the night saw a number of exhibitors and presenters provide medical students and junior doctors the opportunity to liaise with and hear from doctors in training, college representatives, medical accountants and financial advisers, in order to gather key information to help make informed decisions on their future careers.
Doctors in training, Dr Megge Beacroft and Dr Rikki Priest spoke about their career journeys and how they chose their training specialties.
Presentations were also given by specialists in General Practice (Dr Shyamini Naidu, Dr Samantha Hodges); Paediatrics (Dr Nadia Tan); Surgery (Dr Dhanushke Fernando); Physician (Dr Harry Smallbone); Emergency Medicine (Dr Jeremy Rogers); Anaesthetists (Dr Aidan Dunnill, Dr Emily Zhen); and Intensive Care (Dr Charles Qiu).
Attendees listened to presentations from the specialists on what it is like to work in a particular specialty and what drew them to that career choice. And they had the opportunity to ask questions about different training programs, how to get onto a particular training program, and the application process.
The Expo was a great success, with close to 200 junior doctors and medical students attending on the night, taking away informed choices about their career direction and progressive pathways.
Sponsors of the event included:

Silver – Joondalup Health Campus
Bronze – Avant, Ahpra, Institute for Health Leadership, MIGA, Rural Health West.
